چکیده

Hyperlipidaemia may be defined as the presence of excess lipid in the blood. It may be classified according to the nature of the lipids which are increased. A classification of hyperlipidaemia based on the fasting levels of cholesterol and triglyceride allows of three possible abnormal groups, which are shown in table I together with the corresponding classification according to Fredrickson as modified in the World Health Organization Memorandum (1970). The Fredrickson system is based on lipoprotein analyses and has six classes compared

The effect of desiccated thyroid on plasma and tissue lipids and atherogenesis in the stilbestrol-treated chick.

Repeated implantations of diethylstilbestrol pellets cause a sustained hyperlipemia in the chick, and atherosclerosis eventually supervenes. Desiccated thyroid significantly reduces the incidence and degree of the stilbestrol-induced atherosclerosis in the chick, although it is without sustained effect upon the plasma and tissue lipids.

CURRENT SURVEY The hyperlipoproteinaemias

Elevated plasma lipids have been associated with an increased risk of ischaemic heart disease. However, regimens which reduce plasma lipids may decrease the recurrence rate of myocardial infarction. Accurate diagnosis of patients with elevated lipids and their families may be important in both secondary and primary prevention of atherosclerosis. Classification of hyperlipoproteinaemias, the met...

Psychosocial and reproductive influences on plasma lipids, lipoproteins, and atherosclerosis in nonhuman primates.

Until recently, research in experimental atherosclerosis focused primarily on nutritional influences on plasma lipids, lipoproteins, and atherosclerosis. We review here the results of recent studies of independent and interactive influences of psychosocial and reproductive influences on atherosclerosis in nonhuman primates. These studies have produced evidence that, as in human beings, individu...

The Modification of Serum Lipids after Acute Coronary Syndrome and Importance in Clinical Practice

Atherosclerosis is a pathology characterized by low-grade vascular inflammation rather than a mere accumulation of lipids. Inflammation is central at all stages of atherosclerosis. Acute coronary syndrome significantly affects the concentration and composition of the lipids and lipoproteins in plasma. Plasma triglyceride and very low density lipoprotein levels increase, while high density lipop...

Comparative Effects of Copper, Iron, Vanadium and Titanium on Low Density Lipoprotein Oxidation in vitro

Oxidation of low density lipoprotein (LDL) has been strongly implicated in the phathogenesis of atherosclerosis. The use of oxidants in dietary food stuff may lead to the production of oxidized LDL and may increase both the development and the progression of atherosclerosis. The present work investigated the effects of some elements including: copper (Cu), iron (Fe), vanadium (V) and titanium (...
